Dear Monroe-Woodbury families,

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I write to you this evening. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who so tragically lost their lives in today’s senseless shooting at an elementary school in Texas. The loss of life, especially of those so young, is heartbreaking.

There will be headlines that your children will see, which may result in questions. Please know that your school community is available to support students and families during the days ahead. It’s important that your children know that they are safe in our schools. There are teams of social workers and school psychologists available to support your child.

Please know there are no active threats to our buildings. However, I have spoken with both the Monroe and Woodbury Police Departments and there will be a stronger police presence in and around our schools. We remain committed to keeping all students and staff safe, first and foremost.

As a reminder, the district's Anonymous Alerts system is in place to allow students, staff and community members a way to report concerns anonymously. We encourage you to remind your children to use this tool as a way of communicating anything of concern.

There is nothing more important than our students and their well-being, and we remain committed to doing all that we can to ensure their safety. Our hearts remain with the families of Texas.

Sincerely,

Elsie Rodriguez
Superintendent of Schools
