Abhilash Patel moves on to finals in national spelling bee

Can you spell IMPRESSIVE?

MWMS eighth grader Abhilash Patel has earned a spot in the Top 12 finalists of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. He will compete in the Finals today, June 2, which will be aired live on Ion platforms.

This year, 234 spellers earned their spots as national competitors by advancing through regional bees, competing against students representing all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Department of Defense Schools in Europe. Spellers will also represent four countries outside the U.S.: the Bahamas, Canada, Germany and Ghana.

To date, spellers have competed in three of the four segments of competition to determine who will take home the Scripps Cup: the Preliminaries, Quarterfinals and Semifinals. The competition will culminate today as 12 Finalists  will compete for the prestigious Scripps Cup.

Best of luck to Abhilash! We are so proud of you and will be cheering you on all the way!
