During a recent breakfast celebration, four M-W students were recognized as Senior Scholar Humanities Honorees. Students from throughout the county were recognized by Orange-Ulster BOCES for their work in literature, language, philosophy, visual arts, theater, dance or music.

Congratulations to the M-W honorees!

Kalyssa Insdorf

Kalyssa’s vocal and instrumental talents are exemplary. She is the soprano section leader of the Monroe-Wodobury High School Voice Ensemble, 2nd chair of the Trumpet Section, secretary of the Wind Ensemble, and has earned seats in NYSSMA All County, Area All State and Solo music festivals. She is a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, French Honor Society, Pep Band, P Orchestra, LEAD Mentors, Art Guild and Treble Choir. 

Kalyssa will attend the University of New Haven to earn a dual degree in forensic science and molecular biology with further aspirations to earn a bachelor’s degree. 

Jana Kralik

Jana is a prolific artist. She has the remarkable ability to readily transform her thoughts and emotions into creative works. Her joy while creating inspires others to also make art. Ultimately, Jana makes artwork that builds connections and evokes a sense of a universal human condition, all while inspiring others to enjoy the process of artmaking. 

Jana will attend college to pursue a degree in psychology.

Maya Lejovitzky

Maya demonstrates an understanding of the interconnectedness of art and history. She is able to thoughtfully engage in classroom discussions about the role artists play in society. Her passion is evident in her artmaking practice. She is curious and open to experimenting with new artistic media and is eager to learn new information and techniques. 

After high school, Maya will explore high education options with a focus on writing.

Makayla Thuesday

Makayla has remarkable creative skills. She is an active member of the National Art Honor Society and uses art as a way to structure her creative energy. She will soon be earning the New York State Regents Diploma of Distinction in the Fine Arts. Outside of school, Makayla offers her time and creative talents to help others through numerous art-related community service projects. 

She will explore a career in the medical field.
