Honors Earth Science students on a mountain

On September 29 and 30, 120 MWHS Honors Earth Science students, led by D. Johnson, J. Puopolo and A. Taylor, traveled to Cragsmoor, NY to visit visit Sam's Point Preserve, which is part of the Minnewaska State Park.

The students hiked to the Ice Caves, learned about the rocks, stratigraphy, geologic history and weathering processes that formed the landscape of the area. En route, they also learned about wildfires that affected the ecology of the area and encountered some of the local wildlife.

Students were to share four things related to their experience:

  • One thing I learned
  • One thing that surprised me
  • One question I still have
  • Favorite part of being at Sam's Point Preserve

Sunshine. Mountains. A porcupine! All made for a rich and memorable learning experience.
