The saying goes, breakfast is the most important meal of the day! Our newest “Crusader Cause for Applause” recipient is Dawn Ricaurte, Cook Manager at MWMS. Described as a hands-on leader who makes her students and staff feel valued, Mrs. Ricaurte has proudly served meals to students in M-W for the past 18 years. There were plenty of hugs and happy tears during this celebration as colleagues celebrated Mrs. Ricaurte’s dedication to ensuring all students she serves have nutritious meals every day. Thank you! 🤩

Happy Friyay! A book can always inspire a new adventure! Ms. Caprara and Mrs. Stevens' Kindergarten class at Sapphire Elementary was treated to a special mystery reader today, Superintendent Tracy Norman. Dr. Norman read, “All the Things You Will Do!” This beautifully illustrated book is filled with hope and encourages readers to believe they can be anything they want to be when they grow up. Each day is a fresh start for a new beginning! Have a great weekend, Crusaders!

At the February 19 Board of Education meeting, 8th grade twins Hailee and Madison Lendor were recognized for their incredible act of kindness toward a neighbor in need. The twins, with help from family, friends and neighbors, baked and sold 126 dozen cookies to raise money for a displaced family. Now that's the heart of a Crusader!

If you want honest feedback, ask a first grader. MWHS students in Ms. Rivelli’s English class visited Sapphire Elementary and read children’s picture books they had authored and illustrated themselves. Tiny faces hung on every word as the HS students bravely asked the first graders their opinions. Interactions such as this between our youngest Crusaders and high school students will always be a cherished tradition at M-W! 📖💜

The MWHS Kids Changing the World Club (KCW), along with elementary schools throughout the district, made heartfelt Valentine’s Day cards for seniors in long-term care facilities and several veteran organizations throughout Orange County. These handmade cards and decorations, part of outreach initiatives led by Senator James Skoufis and Congressman Pat Ryan, were distributed just in time to spread kindness for Valentine’s Day!

MWHS students Lucas Traina and Lea Quinn were among the winners at the recent SkillsUSA Area 4 Orange-Ulster BOCES competition. Traina earned a bronze medal in carpentry and Quinn won a gold medal in esthetics. Great job, Crusaders!

Congratulations to eighth grader Gigi Sullivan, otherwise known as Boys Wrestling Division 1 Section IX Champion! Way to go, Gigi!💪⭐️👏

Due to the forecast for snow and icy weather conditions this weekend, all Monroe-Woodbury buildings will be closed for use as of Noon on Saturday, February 15, through Monday, February 17. Hey, Crusaders! What’s better than a three-day weekend? A three-day weekend that starts with these young musicians filling the hallways of North Main with beautiful melodies on this cold winter day. Happy Friyay! See everyone on Tuesday!

Reminder: All Monroe-Woodbury schools and offices are closed on Monday, February 17 in honor of Presidents Day. See everyone on Tuesday!

Imaginations at Central Valley were awakened in Ms. Eckert’s art class! Students created their own vibrant project boards inspired by poetry from the book Hailstones and Halibut Bones. This collection of poetry describes how we can experience colors using all of our senses. Students were immersed in this activity as they discussed all aspects of the book! 🎨

Get ready for an unforgettable evening of music! The highly anticipated Prism Concert, featuring the incredible student performers from the Voice Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra, Symphonic Band, Symphonic Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, and Chamber Winds, is happening at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, at MWHS. Don’t miss out on this extraordinary night featuring our talented musicians!🎶⭐️

On Friday, February 14, the Monroe-Woodbury school community will wear red in recognition of Heart Health Month. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. M-W is wearing red as a reminder to our families to take care of cardiovascular health. Go red, M-W! ♥️

Congratulations to the winners of the Dog Man series event! M-W librarians, Monroe Free Public Library and Flagship Cinemas teamed up to host a special contest throughout the district. More than 800 submissions were received and judged based on drawing, coloring and answering trivia questions about the series. Great things happen when we open up a book! 📚

Monroe-Woodbury MS 8th grade students and staff worked together to design, sketch and paint a mural in the 8th grade hallway incorporating this year’s district theme, New Beginnings. The mural represents the student’s interpretation of values of integrity, honesty, compassion, fairness, ethics and respect! Amazing collaboration, Crusaders! #newbeginnings

Sapphire Elementary, along with local food pantries, teamed up to host its annual “Soup”er Bowl Can Drive. This campaign donates soup and other non-perishable items to Monroe-Woodbury families and neighboring communities in need. This year, over 700 cans were donated! Way to give back, Crusaders! 💜
